During the first world war, Sir James Ramsden reopened Bog mine to work barite. He sunk this shaft in 1915 and built an aerial ropeway from here to the crushing mill at Minsterley. A tramway linked Ramsden shaft to the main site.
The shaft is lined with concrete blocks and as these MineCam
pictures show, they are stained white, red or black with minerals precipitated
by water running down the sides at various depths.
At the bottom, 128 metres down, behind the usual pile of rubbish is a large opening leading North-West which connects with the Boat Level.
