I.A.Recordings has recently written the third edition of "Underground Video
Techniques".
Published by the Shropshire Caving and Mining Club, the illustrated 50-page A4 booklet covers choice of camera and other equipment, protecting it against harsh underground environments, special lighting techniques, sound recording problems and how to put together an entertaining and watchable production. A glossary explains all the terms used in the text.
The author has been professionally involved in broadcast television production for over 20 years and has worked on underground video with I.A.Recordings for the past 17 years.
Available from I.A.Recordings or the S.C.M.C. for £5 plus postage.

Due to the success of "Underground Video Techniques" we have been
asked to produce a more general guide to methods of recording industrial
processes and remains.
There are so many subjects worth recording: ancient craft industries surviving to the present day, derelict buildings about to be demolished, hi-tech firms modernising their production lines, the list is almost endless.
Video camcorders are widespread and easy to use, but just as with still photography, study of technique can yeild superior results. With care, a video can be a pleasure to watch as well as a detailed documentary record.
Our forthcoming publication "Video Techniques for Industrial Archaeologists" will help anyone with acess to video equipment produce a record for posterity and an entertaining show!

In our wanderings around Britain photographing and filming the remains of
industry, we have developed a series of printed gazeteers of sites linked to
British Ordnance Survey maps, which we call "Map Notes".
Each list is designed to be attached to a particular 1:50,000
series map and provides a handy reference to numbered places of industrial archaeology interest on
that map. By attaching small adhesive numbers to the map itself, the user can
see at a glance which sites are near a given location.
We may eventually publish printed copies of these notes. In the meantime, have a look at our MapNotes page.
