Compilation 46: Astley Green Colliery - Mining history video

A compilation of material shot during a visit by members of the Shropshire Mines Trust to the vintage vehicle and engine rally at Astley Green Colliery Museum in Lancashire, in April 1999. The tape features some of the Museum exhibits, the SMT Ruston-Hornsby engine on display, a trip to the top platform of the 30m high steel lattice headframe, 2460kW Yates & Thom steam winder
On the headframe some views of the enormous 2460kW (3300hp) Yates & Thom steam winder, the largest in Europe; and a short trip on the museum narrow gauge railway. The museum is managed by volunteers of the Red Rose Steam Society, who gave unstinting help to us during this visit.
