Compilation 34: The Last Run II - Inland Waterway video

On the same day in in April 1997, two more "Last Runs" sadly occured when important waterway cargoes ceased operation.

Little Shuva approaching Naburn lock Newsprint to York: Since 1989, Acaster's Water Transport had supplied The York premises of Westminster Press with 200 tonnes of paper per week, loaded at Goole. Until now, this has saved the narrow streets of the historic city from much heavy lorry traffic. Graham Acaster's purpose-built push tug "Little Shuva" with two loaded lighters is seen leaving Goole Ocean lock, passing Selby and Cawood swing bridges and passing through Naburn Lock, on their last run to York.

Effluent from Leeds: Yorkshire Water contracted Dean & Dyball Marine to transport sewage effluent from their works just below Knostrop Fall lock in Leeds, to Goole where it was pumped into the coaster Reedness for dumping at sea. The 55.5m long tankers Trentaire and Trentcal were originally built as bulk wine carriers and each carry 450 tonnes of sludge. Loading for the last time in Leeds, the Trentaire is followed via Woodlesford lock, Castleford Flood lock and Ferrybridge, to meet the Trentcal and the Reedness in Goole docks.
